Espanola, Ontario - Home

Another cool morning but no rain.  We had breakfast at the hotel Motor Inn (apparently) and then loaded up the bikes for the last time.

Arrived in Ottawa at 4:45PM,  safe and sound

We want to thank, Don and Janet, Peter, and Terry for generously hosting us during our trip. We'll be happy to return the favor anytime. Thanks and Thanks again!

We want to thank "Ozzy" Mike's GPS for telling us where to go.
We also want to thank Harley Davidson for making good reliable machines.
And last but not least, we want to thank our sponsors Lise Rouleau and Linda Lalonde.

Total Distance traveled 9,727 Km

Oil changes, $179,
Gasoline, a few hundred $$
The experience PRICELESS

Ironwood, Wisconsin - Espanola, Ontario CANADA

It was a cool morning,  so we wore full leathers, but no rain gear was required.  The wet weather which had been forecast for the morning had blown through during the night. It never got warm enough while riding during that day to ever take the leather off.
We had a long way to go today,  so,  although there were many photo opps, we didn't have time to capitalize on these. We did however take these two photos in Wakefield, Michigan:

We rode through the "Ottawa National Forrest" in Michigan on the way to Sault Ste. Marie;
Where we sailed through Customs, except for the line-up. We missed the Duty Free store, argh! They need bigger signs.
Dr. Evil rides a Harley?

We arrived in Espanola at 10:30 PM. It was dark and very cold for the last couple of hours of riding. We stayed at the same Hotel, the Pinewood Lodge, that we had stayed at on August 1st.
It's good to be back in Canada.

Wednesday August 18th

Fargo, North Dakota - Minnesota - Ironwood, Wisconsin

Last night Mike (Mr. Social) chatted up a Victory rider and took some pics of his ride. This guy, Bill from Vero Beach, Florida put on 85,000 miles in 5 years - of course he is now single.

We left Fargo in the rain this morning.  We knew that the good weather wouldn't last forever. Mike stopped to buy a new pair of waterproof boots in Walker Minnesota. All in all though, the rest of the day was not too bad, mostly overcast, some light showers. The sun even poked through the clouds now and then.
We had arrived in Fargo on Interstate 94, however we left on highway 10, and made our way across to Interstate 2 by way of highways 10, 34, 200 almost a straight line.

A big lumber jack in Akeley Minnesota

Minnesota is very much like Ontario, same trees and vegetation, even the road signs are the same colour.  We could have been riding near home and scenery would be pretty much the same.

We hope to cross back over into Canada tomorrow at Sault Ste. Marie and then get to Espanola, Ontario for the night.  Our trip is winding down.  It will be nice to get home.

Tuesday August 17th

Glendive Montana - Fargo, North Dakota

Yet another perfect weather day.  Sunscreen and T-shirts.

We crossed most of North Dakota today. The terrain started with soft rolling hills (farm land) then went to rocky buttes (badlands) and then finally to flat prairie farms.
The full sign read: "Home on the range"

Sunflowers was a very common crop.
A tribute to wild cows?

Distance today: 626Km   Total: 7,849Km

Monday August 16th

Belgrade Montana - Glendive Montana

Montana is very wide.  Another great weather day.

Yellowstone park is nearby,  but unfortunately we don't have enough time to visit.  It's a shame, but time is running short.

There are a lot of buttes in Montana. The US prairies do not seem as flat as Canada's prairies.

And of course we had to stop in Terry Montana.

Sunday August 15th

Spokane, Washington - Idaho - Belgrade Montana

Another sunny day, we left Spokane late.  It was around noon when we hit the road.

We rode out of Washington, through northern Idaho and into Montana (Yippy-Ty-O-TY-Ay).
It's a Frank Zappa reference look it up :-)

Northern Idaho was quite scenic, as was Montana.  Rolling hills and mountains with farms in the valleys.

We found this interesting Museum.

It was disappointing.

Told you. :-)

We arrived in Belgrade, Montana at about 10:30 PM in the dark. It was cold at this high elevation. When we rode through Butte Montana the elevation was almost 7000 feet.

Saturday August 14th

Port Angeles, Washington - Spokane, Washington

Wow what a day!  Sunshine all day long. Blues Skies and riding in T-shirts all day.

We rode to the ferry at Kingston, Washington.

The ferry loaded just as we arrived. No wait! The Walla Walla Washington!

The ferry landed at Edmonds, Washington.

The scenery during the ride after we left the ferry was fantastic; from rock mountains, lush green hills, to desert.

We passed a scenic lookout called the "Monument to Wild Horses".

This was the hottest day to date.
